Amos Vandy Saati, over the past 10+ years, has built a career as a Sustainable Development Delivery Specialist, with a core focus on project management, carbon credit, climate finance, agriculture, business development, climate adaptation, and mitigation. Throughout this period, Amos supported the design and execution of systemic capacity transformation, which includes community resilience capacity and governance capacity at local and national scale and stabilization programming intended to strengthen national and local government service delivery and enable citizen-government platforms, build sustainable community-led growth models that also address the climate crisis, and improve mechanization services and input systems for farmers.

Amos currently works at the Office of the Mayor of Freetown, Sierra Leone, where he serves as a technical advisor on climate adaptation and mitigation and project lead for the #FreetownTheTreeTownCampaign. As Project Lead, he’s coordinating the city’s effort to plant, grow, and digitally track 5 million trees and restore 5,000 hectares of land by 2030, which contributes to the goal of sequestering approximately 100,000 tons of carbon while reducing environmental risks such as flooding, extreme heat, and landslides.

As Technical Advisor in the Office of the Mayor of Freetown, he’s also leading the build-out of an impact investment strategy and platform to fund green infrastructure and nature-based solutions that introduce a sustainable financing mechanism at the city-scale through offering impact ownership in Freetown trees (e.g., carbon offsets) to corporate and institutional partners that will systematically decrease carbon emissions and increase ecosystem services to transform Freetown into a climate-resilient city.

Binta played a crucial role in Sierra Leone’s emergency response and recovery efforts, notably during the National Ebola Response, later joining the President’s Delivery Team to coordinate post-crisis recovery priorities. Seconded to the Office of National Security (ONS) following the August 14, 2017 mudslide, she provided data-driven insights to support effective disaster response interventions.

As the Lead Reform Coordinator at Freetown City Council, she spearheaded transformative Property Tax and Business License Reforms, significantly improving revenue generation for urban development. Her commitment to sustainability is further demonstrated in her leadership as the Chief Operating Officer at Situation Hub Gambia Ltd., where she championed sustainable agriculture and aquaculture investments, integrating solar-powered irrigation and supporting women’s cooperatives.

Currently, Binta serves as the ESG Marketing Manager for the Freetown the Treetown Programme, an award-winning reforestation initiative that has planted over 1 million trees, with a goal of 5 million by 2030. Ronita Shaw is a finance consultant with over 25 years’ experience in Business
Management, Financial Planning and Governance related issues and has worked in
both the private and public sectors. A good track record of applying strong analytical
skills and lateral thinking to develop creative and innovative service solutions.

Ronita is a co-founder and chairperson of a registered UK and Sierra Leonean
Cancer Charity (Sierra Leone Cancer Charity (VIJI) and advocates for a better
access care for cancer patients in Sierra Leone. Outside of the work environment, Ronita will use any available opportunity to be
outdoors walking or gardening and indoors love watching sports and documentary
programs.

Lahai Daramy is a motivated and results-driven individual with a solid foundation in software packaging and advanced hardware, complemented by his ongoing studies for a Bachelor of Science in Procurement, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management at the Institute of Public Administration and Management, expected to graduate in 2026.

With over six years of diverse experience at the Freetown City Council, Lahai has demonstrated his versatility and commitment to community development. His roles have included serving as a Monitor in Environmental Public Space and acting as a Liaison Officer between the Catholic Relief Service and the Freetown City Council under the European Union Stand with Salone Project during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since February 2024, Lahai has excelled as a field verification monitor data consultant for the Freetown City Council, contributing to the Bloomberg Global Mayors Challenge through the #FreetownTheTreeTown campaign. In this capacity, he accurately verifies tree survival rates tracked by field monitors every three months, conducts monthly planting audits, collects essential data on various tree species, and uploads this information to the FCC Tree Tracking platform to promote transparency.

Currently, Lahai is embracing the role of Green Infrastructure Operation Manager for the Freetown TreeTown initiative. This new position allows him to further develop his skills and positively impact environmental sustainability. Abdulai Thaimu Bundu, is a highly motivated and creative thinker with a strong passion for environmental sustainability and urban development. He currently serves as the Monitoring and Evaluation Consultant for the FreetownTheTreeTown project at the Freetown City Council, contributing to the city’s reforestation efforts. In this role, he leverages his expertise in data collection, analysis, and reporting to track the progress of tree distribution, planting, and community engagement, providing valuable insights to support Freetown’s urban resilience.

Prior to his current consultancy, Abdulai served as a Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant for the Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Project within the Mayor’s Delivery Unit at Freetown City Council. He played a crucial role in implementing M&E frameworks to track the progress of climate adaptation and mitigation initiatives aimed at increasing Freetown’s urban resilience. Abdulai’s responsibilities included data collection and analysis using both quantitative and qualitative methods to assess the impact of climate-related interventions. He also collaborated with project teams to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and developed comprehensive reports for internal and external stakeholders. His proactive approach and problem-solving skills allowed him to propose innovative approaches to improve M&E processes and enhance the project’s impact on the ground.

Before becoming an M&E Assistant, Abdulai worked as a Social Mobilization & Programs Intern at the Mayor’s Delivery Unit, Freetown City Council. He coordinated Councilors for briefings and evaluating the projects the Freetown City Council have implemented and broadcast it to the general public. Engaged twelve communities to understand the impact of the Transform Freetown Projects implemented in their localities. Abdulai also Produced seven projects videos for the general public, widened the knowledge of Freetonians to know the achievements the Freetown City Council has made so far in 2023.

Abdulai’s commitment to community development extends beyond his work at the Freetown City Council. As a Researcher and Report Writer at Computer Development Services (CDS), he contributed to research projects aimed at improving the key performance indicators of the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank (SLCB). He also volunteered as an Enumerator with Saint George Foundation, collecting data on children sleeping on the streets in the Freetown Municipality.

Abdulai holds a Bachelor of Social Science in Social Work from the University of Sierra Leone, Fourah Bay College (FBC). During his studies, he gained valuable knowledge in social research, community coalition building, mental health, policy and planning, and disaster recovery and development. Over the past five years, James Austin Small has developed a career as a monitoring and evaluation officer and data analyst. His focus areas include project management, digital tree verification, public sanitation, and environmental tree planting. James Austin Small is an experienced professional with a proven track record in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data for multiple organizations, including Statistics Sierra Leone (STAT.SL) and the Freetown City Council (FCC). He recognizes the importance of accurate data collection and analysis and is committed to ensuring that the results meet the highest quality standards.

Currently, he works as a digital tree verification and data technician on the Global Mayor’s Challenge campaign, #FreetownTheTreeTown, in the Office of the Mayor of Freetown, Sierra Leone, Her Worship Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr OBE. John Miracle Saccoh is an Environmental Assistant with 5+ years of experience at the Freetown City Council, where he plays a key role in waste management and climate resilience projects, including the World Bank-funded Integrated Resilient Urban Mobility Project (IRUMP). With a strong foundation in Environmental Chemistry and leadership experience, John is passionate about urban sustainability, reforestation, and policy reform. His work is driven by a vision to implement sustainable urban planning strategies that address climate challenges in Sierra Leone and foster global collaboration for environmental justice.

John earned a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Environmental Chemistry from Njala University, where he distinguished himself as a leader, serving as the President of the Society of Chemistry. He has also obtained certifications in Climate Finance, Nature-Based Solutions, and Air Quality Communications from globally recognized institutions.

His professional journey began as an Environmental Intern at the Mayor’s Delivery Unit of the Freetown City Council, where he conducted water and soil analysis to assess pollution levels at major dumpsites in Freetown. His findings provided critical data for environmental health risk assessments. During this time, he also played a pivotal role in conducting extreme heat assessments and raising public awareness about urban heat challenges.

In 2023, he advanced to the role of Environmental Assistant, where he supported the development of Freetown’s new waste management strategy and worked alongside the Chief Heat Officer to implement heat action initiatives. His contributions to the #FreetownTheTreeTown project have been instrumental in reforestation efforts, ensuring effective tree verification and data management. Additionally, he is responsible for reporting on climate projects for the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).

John’s experience with IRUMP includes conducting Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) to operationalise public transport buses (Waka Fine Buses) in Freetown. Fatmata Binta Benya graduated from Fourah Bay College with a first-class degree in Peace and conflict studies. During her undergraduate studies she worked with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) under the Kenema District Recovery Programme (KDRP) where she worked closely with the district council.  In 2011 she started her career as a teacher at Montessori school, now British international school striving to make learning fun and impactable. 

She moved on working in the justice system as a paralegal for Timap for justice. Navigating the corridors of almost all major court rooms, police stations and prisons seeking justice and providing legal aid to village communities in the country. Working with other partners in the justice sector over the years, she contributed to several training and workshops.  She formed part of the team in 2017 to have reviewed the bailing and sentencing guidelines.

Excelling and being recognized for her hard work, she was elevated as assistant project manager and later communications and data manager. Ensuring data accuracy, quality, security and monitoring communication effectiveness.

Binta also later worked with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) as a research consultant where she worked with teachers and head of schools in the Bo district on basic numeracy and literacy, evaluating the effectiveness of the educational program, the interventions and initiatives to help schools achieve their educational goals.

In 2019 during the covid 19 pandemic Binta had her first contract working with the Freetown city council as a constituency supervisor working with councillors in the fight against covid. Presently she works as a tree verification and data technician under Freetown The Tree town project aimed at restoring mangrove and reforesting Freetown.

Binta is currently pursuing a master’s degree in governance and leadership at the institute of public administration and management.

My name is Selwyn Clemens. An Information Systems expert and environmental conservationist. I studied at IPAM, specializing in Networking, Web Development, and Hardware Management. Since joining Freetown City Council in 2019, I have contributed to urban planning and document control.

I worked as a Tree Verification Officer, verifying planted trees with the Greenstand admin panel. I supervise monitors in catchments 8, 9, and 10, ensuring tree tracking, care, and maintenance.

Looking ahead, I am eager to further merge my IT expertise with environmental conservation, leveraging technology to enhance restoration projects and sustainability initiatives. Through leadership and innovation, I remain committed to making a lasting impact in urban development and ecological preservation.

Kalvin Tua Lamin is a passionate and results-driven Public Health professional with a degree from Njala University and over five years of dedicated service at the Freetown City Council. With a deep commitment to problem-solving in Global Health and Public Health Administration, he has played a vital role in implementing innovative solutions that address public health challenges in urban settings and he is a Tree Verification Monitor and Data Technician in the Freetown The Treetown campaign where he is responsible to track and verify the chain of custody of all trees from the nursing, planting, and growing stages under the Freetown The Treetown Campaign.

Throughout his career, he has been actively involved in designing and executing programs that promote environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and occupational health and safety. His expertise spans across multiple fields, including Climate change and Urban Heat Resilience, Environmental Management and Protection, Urban Forestry and Waste Management. These areas of focus have positioned him as a key advocate for sustainable development and public health reform in rapidly growing urban communities. At the Freetown City Council (FCC), he has contributed significantly to public health initiatives aimed at mitigating environmental risks and promoting healthier living conditions for city residents. Their work has included developing policies to enhance climate resilience, particularly in vulnerable communities that are disproportionately affected by urban heat and environmental degradation. By integrating sustainable urban forestry practices, they have helped foster greener spaces, reduce heat stress, and improve air quality in Freetown.
