In its ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability, the Freetown The TreeTown campaign an initiative under the Freetown City Council has launched a Universal Tree Tracking program to monitor the survival rates of trees planted during the 2023/24 planting season. This initiative is designed to evaluate how many trees have thrived and identify those that have not survived.
So far, 100,000 trees have been tracked, with more expected to be included by the end of the monitoring period.
The tracking process occurs every three months, allowing for consistent monitoring and data collection. By assessing survival rates, the program aims to enhance future planting efforts, improve tree care strategies, and contribute to long-term environmental conservation.
“This initiative is crucial in ensuring that our tree planting efforts are effective and sustainable. Regular monitoring helps us understand the challenges affecting tree growth and enables us to take necessary actions to improve survival rates,” said Claudine Davis, Data and Platform Manager.
